Infrastructure

How is this affecting our Region?

  • Six major bridges in our region require urgent structural repairs

  • Digital connectivity is unreliable in 40% of our electorate, hampering business growth

  • Public transport services reach only 35% of our communities, forcing car dependency

  • Infrastructure bottlenecks add an average of 45 minutes to daily commutes for residents

What can be done?

  • Incentivise state/territory governments to improve the frequency, reliability, and accessibility of shared transport (public transport, car-sharing, bike sharing)

  • Incentivise state/territory governments to improve bike paths and footpaths to encourage active transport

  • Support implementing policies that strengthen national fuel efficiency standards so car manufacturers send their most fuel-efficient, low-emission, and cost-effective vehicles to Australia

What would it look like for us?

Our region would experience a transformation in infrastructure with the local maintenance backlog reduced by 75% within four years and road conditions improved so that 90% of local roads are rated good or better within five years.

Reliable high-speed internet access would be provided to 98% of homes and businesses, while 12 digital connectivity hubs would ensure no resident is more than 15 minutes from high-speed internet.

Five new multi-purpose community hubs would serve 85% of our population, and average commute times would be reduced by 30% through improved transport connections.

Climate-resilient infrastructure would protect 90% of at-risk communities, and 85% of community facilities would be modernised within five years.

These improvements would create 3,500 local jobs through infrastructure construction and maintenance, boosting our regional economy while significantly enhancing quality of life and productivity across our communities.
